PEDAL PALS

Here in Llyn Clywedog, we are lucky enough to have full access around a beautiful reservoir - but that doesn’t mean the reservoir is accessible to all. We are working together to open up this area of outstanding natural beauty to our inclusive community.

Pedal Pals is our new community project, establishing a new Re-Cycle Hub - an electric bicycle facility at the Clywedog Creative Hub. From there, we upcycle existing push-bikes into e-bikes, and make them available for use at our cycle station. These e-bike modifications are tried and tested so that you will find no slope in the reservoir hills too steep to enjoy. While available for affordable hire by our visitors, the e-bikes are also freely available for use by our local community, as part of our aims to promote physical and mental well-being.

We will provide a tool station and support to cyclists in the wider area, while redistributing recycled bicycles to locals who may be in need. Additionally, our participant-led, community-based workshops on bicycle maintenance and e-bike upgrades will develop your understanding and practical skills in maintaining such a rewarding vehicle.

The Pedal Pals Riding with Confidence workshops encourage our members to take advantage of both new and old trails, focused on building your confidence and developing the relationship between you and your bicycle. We are also working to develop e-cycle routes around Llyn Clywedog, as well as outdoor workshop spaces, and public seating, so that all of our community members and visitors can enjoy this extremely special environment - sustainably!

Cycle Maintenance Workshops

Over the summer, free Cycle Maintenance Workshops for both Basic and Advanced Skills have taken place at the Cycle Hub with great success.  Participants from the local community from absolute beginners to seasoned cyclists have learned new skills and polished up existing knowledge with expert guidance from a professinal mechanic (and each other!) which has enabled them to improve the safety, efficiency and performance of their bikes.

"What a relaxed and friendly session.  Learned loads from little ride saving ideas and quick wins to bigger picture stuff"

"Really very useful and informative session with plenty of hands on practical opportunity.  Thank you so much, I've learnt loads"

“Very good and comprehensive for the scope.  Knowledgeable & questions answered with good depth.  Would recommend!”

We will work together to propose new trail plans that improve accessibility around the reservoir for everyone. As always, Pedal Pals is a project led by Radiate Arts, but is built by our community first. If you would like more information on this particular project, or have suggestions or feedback of your own, please email office@radiatearts.co.uk.
