UnShuttered
Exploring LGBTQ+ Heritage Through Photography, Storytelling and Zine-Making

Un-Shuttered is a creative heritage project exploring LGBTQ+ histories, identity, memory and belonging across Chester through photography, storytelling and collaborative zine-making.
Across 6 photography workshops taking place around Chester, participants will learn how to use a camera, develop photography skills and explore places connected to personal experiences, community and LGBTQ+ heritage. This will be followed by 4 zine-making and storytelling workshops at Radiate Arts, where participants will work together to create a collaborative publication celebrating LGBTQ+ stories and heritage.
No previous photography or creative experience is needed. Photography equipment and all materials can be provided, and our friendly team will support participants throughout the project.
The project is open to LGBTQ+ people aged 18 and over and will culminate in a collaborative zine and public exhibition.
First Session: Wednesday 1st July, 1PM–3PM, starting at Rainbow Tearooms, Chester.
For more information or to book a place, contact us at office@radiatearts.co.uk or call 01244 267806.
Un-Shuttered is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Chester LGBTQ+ Memory Map
Help us map LGBTQ+ stories, memories and places across Chester.
Do you have a memory connected to a place in Chester? Perhaps it's where you met friends, attended an event, found community, celebrated, protested, worked, fell in love, or simply felt like yourself.
We invite LGBTQ+ people and allies to contribute stories, memories, photographs and reflections to our interactive community map.
Together, we'll create a living archive of LGBTQ+ experiences, highlighting both well-known and overlooked places that have shaped our community.
