My Reason to Volunteer with Radiate Arts
Hi, I’m Carole and I’ve been volunteering with Radiate Arts since February, mainly supporting the sewing sessions and getting involved with the steering group. After retiring, I was looking for something creative that gave me a sense of purpose, and finding Radiate Arts has been just that. Here’s a little about my experience so far, what volunteering means to me and why I’d encourage others to get involved.

After retiring I tried various classes and courses but could not find anything that gave me a creative purpose until I found Radiate Arts. I am now able to continue to use and develop my own creative skills and at the same time support creative wellbeing for others. It has re-ignited the excitement of using my creative side. You are made to feel part of the team very quickly and the community are so welcoming.
There are lots of different workshops available to help and support with so you can give as much or little time as you wish. There are also opportunities for you to get more involved for example Steering groups to contribute to the future direction of Radiate Arts.
I am enjoying being a volunteer for a creative wellbeing group who care passionately about the positive effects creativity plays in the wellbeing of people. It is something I am passionate about having previously working on the wards in the NHS and it fits well with my ethos. I’ve enjoyed meeting new people from all walks of life which has enhanced my own personal wellbeing as retirement can be a lonely place at times..
You don’t need to be an artist just enthusiasm for creativity in whatever form it takes. You’ll be surprised at how welcome you are made to feel by both staff and the community and how quickly you will settle!
